For your home, for your family.......for Yourself
A FREE DAY OF FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Worldwide Free Comic Book Day Comes to CLARKESVILLE with Comics for All Ages! The Art-Full Barn in Clarkesville was one of thousands of comic book shops around the WORLD celebrating the comic book art form on Saturday, May 4th. On Free Comic Book Day, over 3.3 million comic books were given away by participating stores including over 400 by The Art-Full Barn, introducing as many people as possible to the wonders of comic books! “Despite the horrible weather we had over two hundred folks come through to get their free comic,” said Gail Kimsey of The Art-Full Barn. Celebrating its twelfth year, Free Comic Book Day has proven to be a smashing success, spreading the word that comics are terrific reading. “We had people dress in costume and it was a very fun day. Lex Luthor made an appearance, as well as Clark Kent, Spiderman, and Iron Man.” Regular updates, information about comic books, and a list of participating publishers and their free comics are all online at www.FreeComicBookDay.com. Local comic artist Jason Fowler demonstrated his new comic all day. "We at The Art-Full Barn want to spread the word that comics are perfect for today’s times," Kimsey continued. "Comic books and graphic novels are considered hip, hot and smart. Comic Books have propelled to the front ranks of pop culture, many being adapted into movies, and 2012 was the best year for the comic book industry in 30 years. We expect that to continue this year. ” Thanks so much to everyone that came out to make the day successful!

Our Story.....
Greg and Gail Kimsey opened the Art-Full Barn in 1998 inside an actual old red barn that was built in the early 1920's. It began as a place for artists to sell their creations in a funky and fun atmosphere. It has evolved into much more that that. As people came in to look at the awesome art on furniture, canvas, and functional items, they would ask if we could teach them how to paint it. So we began teaching art classes in both decorative and fine art techniques. Our students were having trouble finding the art supplies for the classes. We contacted suppliers and began carrying the supplies for our students. Eventually people heard we had art supplies and asked it we could get specific supplies. Our art supply stock grew by leaps and bounds and eventually we realized we had one of the best art supply stores in all of North East Georgia. Our focus shifted from selling art to selling art supplies and art classes. As other art classes became available in the area in other venues we allotted more of our classroom space to art supply sales and farmed out our classes to other teachers. We eventually outgrew the barn and moved into the much larger space inside Old Clarkesville Mill. The antique mall outgrew its space and the Art-Full Barn had to make room for it so we opened a second location at 107 LaPrade Street on March 1, 2013. The art supplies, comics, toys, models, and frame shop are in the new location. Several other ventures have sprouted from our original concept and the Art-Full Barn has become a hub for people who create. Come see us for all of your art supply needs.
