Gene Pease always thought outside the box. As a kid, she was told she had no creative talent. It wasn't until she turned 50 years-old that something in her decided she wanted to learn how to make rag baskets from fabric and plastic bags. The baskets turned out so well that she started weaving, then felting, then twining, then making rag rugs—and it was all wonderful. She loved it. She went to some festivals and had work in local galleries. Then at 73, after a 40-year career in education, she decided to open her own shop, where she would show her work and the work of other local artists who were doing the kinds of things she did. It turned out that kid had some creative talent after all—a lot of it.
