Tonya has been making pottery since she was 12 years old. After earning her degree in Art Education, Tonya taught at The Studio Art School in Crested Butte, Colorado, then moved back home to Clarkesville to be the potter at The Art-Full Barn. Every beautiful piece of pottery you find at the store came from Tonya.

In addition to making the pottery for the store, Tonya teaches pottery classes for adults and kids. Adults can dip their toes in with a one-time pottery class, then sign up for a 6-week class that will take them through the entire throwing process from using the wheel, creating various types of pottery, trimming, glazing and firing. In the end, her students take home a set of beautiful pieces that they've created with Tonya's help.

We've got something for the kids, too! Kids can take a pottery class with Tonya every Thursday after school.

Information About Pottery Classes

Adult Classes
Tonya offers ongoing pottery classes for adults interested in learning how to throw. In our experience, almost everyone loves pottery class both for the enjoyment of working with clay and as a fun way to meet new people. Here is some information about her adult classes.

• Classes are taught on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
• There are time slots available for students: 10:00-2:00, 1:00-3:00 and 3:30-5:30
• Students sign up for 6-weeks of instruction that will take them through the entire pottery-making process
• Students will learn how to throw, trim and glaze their pieces
• All of your pieces will be fired in our kilns
• Our classes are open to all skill levels, whether you're a total beginner or you've been throwing for years
• Tonya only teaches throwing on the wheel, NOT hand-building
• Each class session is 2 hours long
• Students typically come to class once a week
• Tonya's 6-week throwing class is $285. Students will also need to purchase a bag of clay from The Art-Full Barn.
• We only allow students to use our clay to protect the kilns.
• All of your pieces will be glazed and fired.
• The firing process takes some time (up to a few weeks), so students will have to come back to the store to retrieve their finished work

Kids Classes
Tonya also teaches an after-school pottery class for kids. Here's some information:

• Kids after-school pottery classes are every Thursday
• Class starts at 3:45
• Kids must be 9 or older to participate
• The after-school pottery class runs for 5 weeks
• Students will attend class once person week for 5 weeks
• We keep the same schedule as the Habersham school system
• Your kids will learn the entire process of making pottery from throwing, to trimming, to glazing

• Each 5-week class is $195​

One-Time Classes 
If you're not sure if you're ready for the full 6-weeks class, dip your toe in the shallow end of the pool with a one-time class session. A one-time session is a single two-hour class where you will work with Tonya to throw your own pieces that she will glaze and fire for you to pick up later. If you love throwing enough to sign up for the 6-week course, we'll apply that $95 fee to the 6-week class fee.

Date Night
If you're looking for something unique, interesting and fun to do on a Friday or Saturday night, our Pottery Date Night is an amazing opportunity to try out throwing with your significant other. You'll both get a 2-hour session with Tonya where you'll throw a few pieces that she'll glaze and fire for you to pick up at a later date. Pottery Date Night is $95 per person.
