Greg Kimsey
Mostly self taught, only having limited private training, Greg has been drawing and painting since he was a young child. His earliest memory of doing art is a drawing of Batman he did at age 3. It looked JUST LIKE Batman!....at least to a three year old's mind. In his teenage years he turned to painting in oils and acrylics. After a brief four year stint in the Navy he returned to the area and pursued his art in earnest, and painted for a year with his former art teacher from his very brief college stint. Securing a job with a local furniture manufacturer as an artist he honed his skills in both speed and proficiency by reproducing paintings on fine furniture by famous artist such as Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, and others. His wife Gail and he opened the Art-Full Barn in 1998 as a place for himself and fellow artists to gather and sell their work. Producing major paintings and prints kept Greg busy. After purchasing a Nikon D70 camera around this time, Greg discovered a love and skill for photography. Greg still paints nearly every day. He is available for commission paintings and his original paintings are available at the Art-Full Barn as well as on his website.

"The Siren's Initiate" Oil on Gatorbord, 24 x 36. This painting was an absolute blast to paint!! It was done as part of the Myth's and Legends show for a local art guild. My models for the painting were my wife (top), niece Ellie (little girl) and Kristen (blond). The story goes, "The sirens have been frolicking in the sea and matriarch rests atop the rock. Suddenly her daughter (blond) sees a ship on the horizon. HER daughter has never seen a ship before and is very excited. Matriarch shields her eyes from the sun, deciding on whether to pursue the ship to lure baby siren's first cabin boy. She is the initiate. Do they pursue, or let it go? You finish the story"
October 1st, 2013. "Natures Nursery", Oil on canvas, 60 x 36. I used a reference photo that I took in North Carolina for the background, and added the fawn. I did not bother using just a few colors for this one! I used nearly everything I have in my drawer on this painting. I like the color in the shadows of the tree in particular. I hope you like it!
Misty Encounter
Misty Encounter, Oil on canvas 24 x 36". Depicting a foggy evening at a pasture near my home, I tried to pull off a scene of misty fog and muted color. I used four colors for the entire painting which was a particular challenge for me since I am a color hog! I love paint tubes and am an avid collector!!! Anyway, I hope you like it :)
After The Play
Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20. I gathered items from the Antiques Mall once again and arranged this still life to offer myself a challenge. I wanted to depict what I thought a woman from yesterday would discard before unwinding with a cup of coffee after an evening on the town, possibly a play, hence the name of the painting. Painting silver, bronze, and wood can be difficult and I wanted to see if I could pull it off. I am pleased overall with the way it turned out. Prints are available at the Art-Full Barn.
Still Life With Lemons
Still life with Lemons and Pewter Vase
Still life with Lemons and Pewter Vase. 33x20" Oil on canvas.
"I tried to be as realistic as possible during this painting. I set up the still life and took photos since most all the items were from the Antiques Mall and I couldn't just leave everything set up while I painted. I worked using lots of thin layers, building them up slowly so that the lower layers showed through giving the illusion of luminosity. I hope you like it!"-Greg Kimsey
